Welcome!
For my first ever blog entry, I thought I’d explain what this diary is all about. A few months ago I decided to run the Marathon De Sables, or MdS as it’s called – it had been a dream for a long time and I decided to finally take the plunge and commit myself to it. For those not familiar, it’s a 135 mile (250km) footrace across the Moroccan part of the Sahara desert. It takes 6 days, and runners have to carry all their own food and supplies with them from start to finish. Past competitors have encountered severe sandstorms, 120+ degree weather, enormous sand dunes and many other hardships. Some have won the battle and others have lost, but everyone says it was worth the journey.
With two months gone by since I signed up, my running volume has started to increase, and I find myself running, by myself, for many hours. Many things pass through my head as I run, from racing to business matters to family issues and more. On one of my last runs I decided it would be a shame to let all these thoughts escape into the atmosphere, without at least capturing some of them so that I may remember what it was like after it’s all over.
So that’s what this blog is about. I’ll write about my training and how it’s going, whether I manage to fit it into my life, or I find that I’m trying to fit my life into my training. I’ll try to capture some of the ups and downs I will undoubtdebtly go through over the next six months and I’ll be happy to hear your comments if you have them.
Happy running
Elad
I've
been participating in endurance events for nearly a decade now, for the pure enjoyment
of training, being outdoors and continuously challenging myself. This blog follows my training, races and thoughts about the challenges of long distance events. Feel free to send me your comments, and enjoy!
